Resistance: Fall of man

This is my first ever ps3 game i bought, along with my ps3. Resistance is a first-person shooter, very similar to most of the shooting games currently. I am kinda glad for that, as this game being 3D gonna be real shitty. Just as its name suggest, this game is about humans resisting against foreign invasion. Alien invasion!!! Though it may sounds very common and boring, the plot and gameplay is definitely not boring. These 'aliens' are known as chimera in the game, and YOU takes on the role of Sergeant Nathan Hale to infiltrate and eliminate these chimera's. This game is released in 2006, it might be old but definitely not those dumb/predictive alien games you play on your GBA or ps2. It is the 1st ps3 game that ever sold over 1 million copies after its release, and i would say it is worth its title, being the fact that i have experienced it myself too. Moving down to the details.....

Gamefaqs rating : 8.1/10
My rating : 8/10
Estimated playtime : 14 hours +

Goods : Variety of weapons, intensive surroundings/background, challenging AIs, unique online modes (Meltdown, Breach etc.).

Bads : Story is abit unclear, movements are rough at times. Online allows 40 players in 1 match (Can be real messy).

-First of all, gameplay. Resistance's gameplay is good, providing all the experience required in any shooters. Basic functions like zoom, switching between weapons and melee are all available. You are also able to switch weapons with dead aliens, pick up additional ammo and health capsules. I would say nothing major is missed out, all captured in one solid package. Guns firing are always fun. In resistance, exchanging shots with enemies can actually be real exciting and mind-blowing. AIs in resistance are not your usual AIs where a few bullets will knock them down. Instead, AIs in resistance will actually flinch and then retaliate again (what i mean is that AIs will get knock back from your shots and then get back up to shoot). They are also able to hide behind objects as sheilds from your shots, reappear and then hide again. I would say they are tough, in the sense that they are more of intelligent AIs, rather than dumb ones that would face you head on. With these 'intelligent' AIs, this game is made more fun and challenging, rather than just a walk-over. Not to forget, epic boss fights!
-There are also times where YOU have to be quick on your reflexes, ambushing/escaping groups of enemies. Can be very tensed, but satisfying much if you managed to take them out. Melee attacks in resistance would just be shoving with your gun, knifing aliens would just be stupid. This game also have features like being able to shake off enemies when they grab on you. There will be a wide variety of aliens, some required more shots to be killed, some require less, so there is no need to worry about fighting the same hordes throughout the game. This will settle for the campaign/single player mode.
-For the multiplayer online, i would say its pretty fine. Basic modes like free-for-all deathmatch and team deathmatch are of course available. There will also be other modes like Breach (Infiltrate enemy's base), Meltdown (Capturing nodes) and team flagmatch etc. So you do not need to worry that online matches would bore you within days. You have the choice of choosing to be on the human side or the alien side, and of course you would expect different stats (Aliens have higher hp but slower speed, humans have lower hp but faster speed etc.). There is the ranked match as well, the higher you advanced, you are able to unlock better weapons and characters.
-In this game, there is a wide range of room size for online players (16/24/32/40), and a large variety of maps to choose from, each suiting the size of the room that you are playing in. Players are able to communicate with one another through bluetooth/USB headset, making online gameplay more intense in some sense. One more thing i would applaud resistance for, is that it is one of the most lag-less online that i have played on the ps3, which makes online gameplay so much smoother and enjoyable for players online.
*These various modes are also available for the offline multiplayer.
-Now i will talk about the various factors of the game has to offer. The variety of weapons is really great. Different weapons can be acquired after killing aliens or just randomly roaming around the map. More weapons can also be unlocked by clearing the game and replaying it again, which makes it less bored for players who wants to give this game a 2nd try. Some weapons are also really unique, in the sense that you wont be able to see them in many of the shooter games out there. For example, a sniper rifle that can slow time, laser shots can  penetrate through walls and a launcher that can shoot out slime bombs. Different type of grenades are also available, rather than just seeing it go BOOM, there are kinds where it is able to create a barrier after denotation. Satisfying much.
-The factor that makes this game intensive are the atmospheres/background. Anyone who played this game before would know wherever you encounter enemies, there will always be dead bodies lying around/cars on fire/smoke emitting from nowhere. Walking past wastelands, destroyed properties, narrow alleys and  splattered blood really keep you in the mindset that 'something is not right', 'this world is over', those kind of thoughts, that will keep you alert throughout as aliens would just appear from nowhere or camping and sniping. Real good setting!
-However as every game has its flaws, this game has it too. Kinda detailed story, as there are lots of cutscene. But, they are mostly in words and stagnant images, unless you pay real attentive to it, if not you could not really get the full hang of the story. The ending is open-minded and abit unclear, i will not spoiled it for those who have yet to play this.
-Movements are rough at times, in terms of vehicles and up-down movements. Nothing serious though, but i just find it a bother to me. Online rooms that accomodate 40 players, to me its just too big. Maps will be incredibly large (hard to find enemies), and when players come together to fight, its just way too messy (shots crazily flying around to the sense that you would not even know how you die). This is just my opinion, as some people might love rooms with alot of people so they could get more kills, and kill steal might be easier. I disagree to that, as you might be a easier victim to get killed.

Concluding everything that i have just said. Resistance: Fall of man is a really great game. Not lacking in anything compared to current shooter games, unique online modes. Even though it is a game during 2006, i will still recommend it to anyone out there who looks for a decent shooting game. Dont be too affected by the 'alien vs human' plot, this game is far more exciting than you ever expected it to be!
Have a nice day!
