Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Marvel vs Capcom has always been a highlight since 10 years back after the 1st and 2nd version was released. I would bet every gamer out there would at least heard of this game before. Back then, everyone's waiting for the next and better version, and now it finally came. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the latest verison of the Marvel vs Capcom series being released. Quite a new game i would say, released on 15 february 2011. I was recommended this game by my friend this game even before it was released, some gameplay and character trailers were already being released into youtube back then. At the 1st day of release, i was already going out to shops, ready to buy it. However, shops were all out of stock due to massive pre-ordering. I was only able to get it like 3-4 days after the official release date, and its through pre-ordering. Just imagine how popular Marvel vs Capcom could be.... its just insanity! Enough said, lets get straight down to the game details.

Gamefaqs rating : 8.1/10
My rating : 8/10

Goods : Gameplay is smooth and fun. Skills/combos are flashy and stylish. More new and awesome characters (Wesker and Dante). Easier controls compared to previous versions (air launch etc.).

Bads : Lack of other modes (Survival/spectator etc.). No solid story of any characters, just 1-2 minutes of 'happy ending'. Online matching is slow and gives problems. Useless DLCs (shadow mode etc.).
Lets start with the gameplay. Mvc3's gameplay is really great i would say. Moves executed smoothly just by pushing the right inputs. Combos can be easily performed in mvc3, given the fact that they reorganised the button settings where air lauching can be executed just by pressing X on the controller. In mvc2, air-launching would still require you pressing the directional buttons, and air combo-ing after that arent anything easy. While in mvc3, you can easily do air combos after launching opponents into the air. I would say one factor that makes mvc3 so fun is the standard button settings. It makes gameplay so much easier that you can actually do combos after combos (100-hit combo is also possible). Performing a 100-hit combo in mvc2, i would say its almost impossible, so just look at the difference!

-Mvc3 still has its usual features from the previous versions. Character assists are still available, which plays a great part in continuing combos, making the game even more impressive. Hyper combo exchange are also back in mvc3. Characters are able to do its hyper and then tag in another character's special right away, dealing massive damage. Hyper combo exchange can be easily executed just by pressing the inputs of another character's hyper during the process of the 1st character hyper.
-New stuff in mvc3! First of all, air exchanges. Characters are able to be tagged in during air combos to continue air combo-ing with the other characters. This can be easily done by just pushing (up/down/left/right + X) inputs. Next up, snap back. Its just a hit that forces the current opponent character away and the next character member have to enter the fight. Next up, level 3 hyper combo. This hyper combo requires 3 bars, which in return deal massive damage, of up to 1/2 of the whole hp bar for any character.
-The main factor that differentiates mvc3 and the previous versions, the X-factor!!! X-factor is like a major enhancement of stats for any character, with way higher damage, chip and speed. There are 3 levels of x-factor. Activating X-factor when having 3 characters alive in the team, would be the level 3 X-factor. Activating X-factor when having 2 characters alive, would be the level 2 X-factor. Activating X-factor with only 1 character alive, would be the level 1 X-factor, which is also the strongest X-factor where the only living character would be able to attain godly damage and speed. Though X-factor only last around 10 seconds, it is more than enough to slaughter a full team of 3! X-factor can be very helpful and hateful. Help ful in the sense of helping you to turn the tables around (turn a losing match into a win match). Hateful in the sense of being slaughtered by opponent's X-factor at the last few seconds(turning you from a 'winner' into a loser).
Now i will talk about the character selection. 38 usable characters currently in the game (including Jill and Shuma). New characters apart from previous versions are of course welcome to mvc3. Dante and Wesker are of course welcomed by the world. While characters like Modok and Thor, i think they are just basically shit! Being a player of mvc3, i prefered the aggressive and fast ones like wolverine, wesker and zero. Slow  characters like thor, arthur and modok. I dont think i will ever use them if i have the choice. Character selection i would say is kinda balanced, with good and bad ones. And of course, there will always be at least 1 over-powered character (Sentinel etc.).
Now i will give a brief summary of the whole game. There is a offline mode, which consists of the arcade mode, verses mode, training mode and mission mode. A online mode (ranked/player match), lobby matches and the shadow mode. A license card where all your details/scores are recorded (match win/lose, offline/online play time, current rank etc.) DLCs are constanly coming, even till now.

-Arcade is good though, accompany with several difficulties (though i think that 'very easy' should not even be inside, b/c AI would just be dumb mofos). There is 7 stages in total, including the fight with galactus. Stages get harder as you proceed, but still managable. Gameplay in arcade is fun, however the ending you get in the end is so unsatisfying. For example, hulk defeated galactus, and so we get his ending. He ends up together with chris to kill nemesis, wtf? So does that mean we get to see hulk in the next resident evil game?!?! There is no story, and i would at least expect a individual ending, and its like marvel-capcom teamwork ending... Then whats up with the 6 stages of fight before getting to galactus, defeating them for no reason and in the end we are all friends. Bullshit story i would say. Same goes to spencer, zero, wolverine endings etc. It just dont make sense to me, no starting but theres a ending, thats crap.
-Just 4 offline modes i would say its very little. Missions are boring. So all we could do is to play arcade and go into training. Capcom should add in more modes like survival, time attack etc. That would at least make offline play more interesting. Just 1 more thing about game modes, there is no spectator mode in lobby fights!!! So we have to keep watching license cards banging each other until it is our turn? Thats boring ttm, and if people play keep-away matches, then i guess we can just go for a pee and take a bite before its our turn.
-Online matches, one of the major factor of fighting games. I would say mvc3 online is ok. Lag is mainly due to the players so i cant blame anyone. Just that looking for matches online can be a pain in the ass. Its slow and gives problems at times.
-Last thing, about the DLCs. To me, they arent anything useful. I am not really a fan of jill and shuma and their trailers dont interest me, so i didnt buy them. Costume DLCs, which make characters lose their style and make them look like clowns, not for me either. Shadow mode, i bought the first 2 and its nothing special. There is up to shadow mode #7 till now, but i dont bother buying anymore of it. Capcom should just spend their time on character DLCs rather than on useless shadow mode.
Anyway, i will still encourage gamers out there to get this game. What matters to any game is its gameplay. Problems i mentioned above are just minor ones. There is not much of a problem relating to gameplay, its great and awesome. If you love fast and aggressive fights, this game is definitely for you regardless whether u like marvel/capcom or not.

Have a nice day!
