EVO 2011
A highly intensive weekend, welcome to EVO 2011! The live stream just ended on my side of the world, a really thrilling experience! For those who do not know what it is, it is a worldwide competitive event for players to gather together and fight it out! Potential players would stand out from the crowd, qualifying to be in the top 48/32 among thousands of participants! Any players from anywhere is welcomed to jion this event, age is not a problem (even a 8-year old kid made it to top 48!). So those who thinks you have what it takes, EVO 2012 will be your chance to showcase your skills to the world! The games EVO will be handling would mostly be fighting games. This year, [Blazblue continuum shift 2/ Tekken 6/ Third strike exhibition/Mortal kombat 9/ Marvel vs capcom 3/ Super street fighter IV arcade edition] are the games that competitors will be taking part in. It is held in vegas, 29nd-31st of july, definitely one of the greatest competitive event ever proposed! Being a player of fighting games as well, how can i ever miss out on this dam good ass event!!
Despite the many games played at this event, i was only able to witnessed play of SSF4 AE and MVC3. Due to the different time zones between singapore and vegas, i wasnt able to witnessed the rest of the matches unless i stayed overnight. It was such a regret that i wasnt able to witnessed the blazblue fights (one of the favourite fighting games that i have played). Yes, but still SSF4 AE and MVC3 was definitely satisfying enough to last my weekend!
-Alright then, lets start with the Street Fighter spree! According to my timezone, Street fighter poolplay was on saturday, hours of play was being streamed live through evo2k.com. Yes it was a magnificent scene, witnessing many potential players doing combos/resets that totally shock the whole crowd including the commentators. And of course you would expect well-known players of the game like Daigo, Tokido and Latif etc. to be there! Great showcase of skills and patience by players, taking the match, driving the crowd crazy, totally mindblowing for anyone! After countless of fights between competitors, it goes down to the top 48, 32 and then the top 8 in just 1 fucking day!!! Just imagine the number of hours sitting in front of your computer watching the live streaming till the end. And i will admit it, i did not watched the saturday fights as i didn know until my friend told me about EVO mvc3, then i realise it. I deserve a snap on the forehead for missing the SSF4 AE rounds!! But hey, i did watch the final 8 battles it out like JUST NOW, and i was indeed impressed by the displayed professionalism.

-Moving down to the top 8 featuring Daigo(Yun), Wolfkrone(C.viper), Latif(C.viper), Fuudo(Fei long), Poongko(Seth), Tokido(Akuma) and the other 2 that i dont remember. Any players would know that Daigo Umehara is at the top of the history of street fighter, being the 1st in several past tournamants. No one would fucking expect that he loses to Latif in the losers bracket! Still it was a fair match, a loss is a loss, have to admit the fact. Latiff strikes out after defeating Tokido, Daigo and Poongko proceeding to grand finals. In the end, Fuudo and Latiff are the remaining ones left. Through tremendous effort from both of them, Fuudo eventually takes it, becoming the SSF4 AE evo world champion for 2011!
-I will also be doing the match of the day! The match of the day for SSF4 AE is nonetheless the match between daigo and poongko in the finals! Poongko practically walk over daigo in the 1st round, and taking it again in the 2nd consecutive round with a PERFECT. The surprising thing is that daigo actually got trashed that badly, bringing him to the losers bracket. Yes, i know everyone make mistakes, but to see daigo getting beat up real bad in tournaments is simply surprising! Poongko's Seth is seen dominating over Daigo's Yun like SERIOUSLY! Indeed a really rare match, that concludes my match of the day for SSF4 AE.

-Next up, its MVC3!! Being one who played this game as well, i am really hyped to see some awesome matches, and EVO does not disappoints me at all!! MVC3 poolplay was on sunday, and so i watched it till the end like 3pm in the afternoon, followed up by random ssf4 ae money matches. Potential players of the game like justin wong, combofiend and richard etc. were of course present to take on the heat! As usual, in competitions like these, crazy mixups/overheads/crazy-ass combos are frequently seen. The factor that strikes out the most in these competitions are the new tricks that no one ever tried. Being able to bring these new tricks into competition heat and execute it perfectly just deserved the loudest applause! And Yes, there are a few that has accomplished these, bringing the crowd on their feet and receiving respect from the other players, indeed a great honor!
-Moving down to top 8, featuring Noel brown, X-ray, Mine-1, Pr balrog, Viscant, Combofiend, Filipino champ and Justin wong. A really great and respectful fight among these guys, shaking hands even if they lose, buddy vs buddy and still giving their all. In the end, it all goes down to Viscant and Pr balrog. A really tough resistance from Pr balrog against Viscant's dark phoneix, until the match drags on for another extra 5 rounds! However, Viscant takes it in the end, becoming the MVC3 evo world champion for 2011!
-Match of the day for MVC3 goes to Viscant vs Pr Balrog in the grand finals! A really tough fight between both of them, match round just keeps dragging on unless one of them make a 2 consecutive losses. The most hyped moment of this match-up is when Pr Balrog's Tron ends dark phoneix (full health with aura) with a level 3 hyper! Totally crazy, the crowd went nuts, commentators goes screaming at the mic and i jump right out of my chair. Tron's hp then was like fucking little, and she has always been the worse match-up against phoneix. Being able to pull that off, just simply threw everyone to the top of the roof! Real crazy, real intense..... argh i am going to go nuts right now! Still, Viscant wins the championship, and Yes i am against it. Phoneix is cheap in the game, anyone who won with it is kind of expected. Its just me, so if you thinks he deserved it, feel free to think that. This will then conclude my match of the day for MVC3.

Today was great, i admit it. Even though i am not really satisfied with the final results, still Pr Balrog pulls it out, showcasing us the extreme of facing phoneix! MVC3 still dominated by the america and SSF4 by japan, this is not some countryism so dont go riot on me. Hope to see more interesting battles in next year, and i know EVO 2012 would not disappoint us!
Have a nice day!
